How often should I wash my car?

Car owners wishing to preserve their investment should wash their car every 7-10 days for protection against long-term damage from sea salt, acid rain and other harmful elements.  A professional detail job at least once a year - preferably twice - will keep the carpets and upholstery looking like new.  According to Kelley Blue Book, the resale or trade-in values for cars can be significantly increased (by more than $1,500) if the exterior and interior are well maintained.

Isn't rain a natural carwash?

No.  Acid rain is damaging to the exterior surface of your car.  Acid rain is simply any rain that has a pH of less than 7 (which is neutral).  While the initial rain on your car may not be bad, it becomes worse once the water evaporates.  When this happens, the acidic contents become concentrated on the surface of your vehicle.  These chemicals become reactived whenever they become wet, so they cause damage again as early as the morning dew.

Isn't handwashing better for my vehicle?

According to a study conducted by the Technical University of Munich in association with Mercedes-Benz, it states "In handwashing...with a garden hose and a sponge technique, small sand particles lodge themselves firmly in the fine pores of the sponge or wash mitt and cannot be removed even by good rinsing.  Such particles work on the paint surface like sanding discs.  Furthermore, the handwashing produced a tangle of uneven scratches in paint surface."

Does a clear-coat finish means I don't have to wax my car?

Not exactly.  A clear-coat can offer your paint protection because it has a more permanent protective layer:  a thin film of acrylic resin.  Owners of clear-coated cars are sometimes told they shouldn't wax at all, but although the clear-coat does ensure that the finish remains shiny, pollution and grime can still dull the surface, so waxing to protect the surface of your car is still needed.

Don't carwashes use a lot of water?

This statement is one of the biggest misconceptions in the carwash industry.  The answer is NO.  An express exterior tunnel, such as Quick Spa, uses roughly 30 to 40 gallons of water per wash and all of that is recycled.  Washing at home has been shown to waste as much as 100 to 140 gallons of water just for one car.

What are the effects of insect residue?

The effects of insect residue can start immediately, especially if the car is new. Insect residue and bird droppings (which can contain sand) form acids that immediately start to eat away a car's clear-coat finish.
